DUO HEAD BACK TO NEW ROAD AFTER MAKING MARK FOR ENGLAND LIONS

Jack Haynes and Josh Tongue are heading back to Worcestershire after making their mark for England Lions during their tour of Sri Lanka.

Batter Haynes finished with a total of 247 runs from five matches across all formats in his first taste of playing Lions cricket.

The 22-year-old hit two half centuries and had an average of 41.16 and a strike rate of 93.20.

Tongue finished second in the bowling averages after picking up 12 wickets in two appearances, including eight in the drawn second Test in Galle.

Only Sussex off spinner, Jack Carson, with 13 wickets in three games, finished with more wickets than Tongue who was also playing for the Lions for the first time.

His overall analysis for the tour was 54.0-8-221-12 at an average of 18.41 runs per wicket.

Haynes was dismissed for 13 off 16 balls with three fours in the final ODI against Sri Lanka A in Colombo, caught behind off Isitha Wijesundera.

The Worcestershire duo will now continue their preparations for the 2023 domestic season after the four-and-a-half week tour.
