Worcestershire have topped the LV = County Championship Division Two table in the second annual Sport Social Index for 2014.
The Index grades 148 British professional football, rugby and cricket teams according to social media performance by their official club channels.
The success is a reflection of the county's flourishing Twitter feed and Facebook page under the supervision and expert guidance of Amy Francetti who is also the Membership and Ticketing Manager.
The county actually came runners-up of all the 18 first class counties behind Division One winners Warwickshire.
The Twitter feed has proved to be increasingly popular with members and supporters since its launch in 2009.
It is an avenue which helps to keep everyone abreast with the latest news and views from New Road along with the Facebook page and the Worcs CCC website.
The Twitter feed celebrated its fifth anniversary in October and since it was launched the Club has tweeted 18,613 tweets and now has 16,452 followers.
The Twitter account is also promoting the increased content now available on the county's website including regular reports on the county players in action abroad during the close season.
Launched in 2013, the annual Sport Social Index is compiled by measuring the social media performance of each team based, not just on an algorithm, but research from a team of seven people who looked at eight social media networks.
Four months in the making, the data was then analysed by a panel of four judges who presided over the final results, creating a league table which benchmarks social media success among professional British sports teams.
The Index, produced by social media agency Umpf – and partnered once again by William Hill – includes an overall table of all 148 teams ranked top to bottom, plus nine additional tables showing rankings based on each sporting league.
Newly-promoted Premier League side Leicester City FC came top in the overall table.
Four of the top 10 places – Leeds United (2nd), Ipswich Town (3rd), Sheffield Wednesday (4th) and Millwall (7th) – were occupied by Championship clubs.
Other inclusions in this year’s top ten are Rugby Super League’s Castleford Tigers (6th) and their union counterparts, Leicester Tigers (9th), from the Premiership.
