THREE NEWCOMERS PART OF WORCESTERSHIRE 2024-2025 ACADEMY INTAKE

Worcestershire County Cricket Club have finalised their 2024-2025 Academy intake and it includes three newcomers.

All-rounder Henry Hawes (Under-17s), right arm pace bowler Lucian Brockman (Under-16s) and left arm seamer Jeet Varaich (Under-16s) will be part of the full Academy for the first time.

They will join forces with Ollie Smith, Fin Goodman, Toby Cox, Joe Porter, Josh Leach, Louis Hursthouse, Seth Essenhigh and Alfie Higgins who have been retained from the 2023-2024 Academy intake.

One member of the 2023-2024 intake in pace bowler Jack Home has signed a three year contract with Worcestershire after promising performances in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Winter training will get underway on November 11 for a six week period up until Christmas and then resume on January 5 through until the end of March.

The 11 members of the Academy will train on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evening and on Sundays.

Worcestershire Academy Coach, Elliot Wilson, has given an insight into the trio of newcomers.

Henry Hawes – “Henry plays for Ombersley CC is an all-rounder, medium pace bowler, right-handed middle order batter.

“He is a fantastic all-round sportsman who has chosen to focus on his cricket over the next two years and we are really excited as to where he gets to over these two years. Henry played for the Seconds in the last two four-day games of the year.”

Lucian Brockman – “He is a right arm fast bowler who plays for Pedmore Cricket Club.

“He generally played Under-16 cricket this summer but played a couple of Under-18 games. He went to the Bunbury Festival this summer and did well.”

Jeet Varaich – “He is a left arm seamer, who also went to Bunburys this year. Plays for Knowle and Dorridge CC.

“As a 15 year-old Jeet has played a number of first team games already in the Birmingham League and done pretty well.”

Wilson added: “All three have come through the pathway and will join up with the eight who have been retained – three Under-18s in Josh Leach, Louis Hursthouse and Ollie Smith, three Under-17s in Seth Essenhigh, Toby Cox and Fin Goodman and two Under-16s in Alfie Higgins and Joe Porter.”
