Fateh Singh says Worcestershire Rapids will be looking to take momentum into the knockout stages of the Metro Bank One Day Cup should they qualify by defeating Lancashire Lightning at Emirates Old Trafford on Wednesday.
The Rapids are currently lying in second spot in Group A with one game to play and are two points behind Somerset who have completed their group fixtures.
Victory would guarantee a spot in the knockout stages either as group winners, and with it an automatic semi-final home tie on Sunday, or being placed second or third and qualifying for an away tie on Friday against the second or third team in Group B.
Warwickshire and Leicestershire currently occupy second and third positions in Group B behind leaders Glamorgan.
Singh, on loan from Nottinghamshire, said: “We are on 10 points but whether it is effectively a knockout game or not on Wednesday, you want to go into the knockout stages winning and not losing.
“It would be nice to get over the line in that game as well like on Sunday against Hampshire and have a strong two games behind us, some momentum.
“We’ve lost two games and bounced back both times and we’ve fought well in a couple of tight games so it is just about being really clinical with ourselves now and we saw that on Sunday.
“We had them 70-5 and stopped them getting anything big like over 200.”
Singh revealed that Head Coach Alan Richardson and One Day Cup captain Jake Libby have displayed positive thoughts about the Rapids chances.
He said: “When I came in for the second game, we had a little meeting together and Richo (Alan Richardson) mentioned ‘it’s the road to Trent Bridge and why not?’
“Libbs (Jake Libby) has said previously we are here to win this as well, that we are not here to just participate and we’ve got ourselves into a really good situation so why not now?
“Having nine senior players out injured, to then go on and win five games from seven, the way the lads have stepped up, has been brilliant but I’m not surprised because they’ve all got something.”
Not that Singh is taking anything for granted on Wednesday despite Lancashire struggling to make an impact in this year’s One Day Cup.
He said: “They haven’t had the greatest competition but you take nothing for granted.
“On paper they have still got a very good side, with some very good players in the side, so you’ve still got to go out there and give it your all.”
Singh is relishing his spell at New Road and has produced a series of excellent performances with the ball and also made useful late order runs.
He said: “It’s just good for me playing cricket, and even better if you do well and get a few wickets. It’s a nice feeling.”
“To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect. It was my first experience of going out on loan with a lot of new people, a lot of new faces.
“But I’m certainly enjoying my time here. The rhythm feels good and that’s the main thing really.”
All-rounder Tom Taylor is expected to come back into contention to face Lancashire after being rested against Hampshire.
He has been rotating throughout the competition with young pace bowler Jack Home who picked up three more wickets on Sunday.
