Academy launch defence of ECB County Championship title

Worcestershire Academy (Under-18s) will launch the defence of their ECB Under-18 County Championship Group Two title when they take on Northamptonshire Under-18s in a three-day fixture at Bromsgrove School today (11am).

The Academy have lifted the title for the past two years and in the process have been unbeaten in both five-match programmes.

Last summer they came out on top with 80 points – two ahead of Northamptonshire – after winning two and drawing three of their games.

Harry Darley, recently promoted to the senior squad, was part of the Worcestershire side along with Rehaan Edavalath.

They face a concentrated period of cricket with five games in six weeks in the tournament up until the end of August.

Keeper-batter Seth Essenhigh, who has scored two centuries in recent weeks for the Academy, is part of the 12 man squad which will be captained by Ben Clarke.

He was part of the senior squad for Sunday’s National Counties Showcase encounter with Wales at Sudbrook CC.
