Worcestershire Head Coach Alan Richardson has praised the contribution of young pace bowlers Jack Home and Harry Darley but also stressed the importance of staying level- headed through the highs and the lows of a professional cricketer.
Home, a member of the Worcestershire Academy for the past four years, impressed on his debut in the Vitality Blast encounter with Derbyshire Falcons, claiming the wicket of Aneurin Donald and finishing with 1-37 from his four overs.
Rookie professional Darley, in only his fourth Blast appearance, picked up two more scalps to add to his two against Leicestershire Foxes the previous week.
Richardson said: “An encouraging sign for the future. It is obviously very early days but it is really nice to see them have the opportunity to play.
“We always champion ourselves of playing our own players so to give them that opportunity….I think Harry has learnt a hell of a lot in the three or four games he’s played, and so he should do, and he should be really proud of that.
“Jack looked completely at home today in being out there. We saw some really nice signs. It is encouraging.”
Richardson added: “One of our values is consistency and you have to remember if you’ve had a really good day and won a game of cricket, that is brilliant and we should celebrate that.
“But the highs can’t be too high because the lows, if you are not playing well, you can’t be down there because it’s a long way back up.
“It will be interesting to see but Harry and Jack have got really good heads on their shoulders and they love playing their cricket, they enjoy representing Worcestershire so they will hopefully have plenty more experiences in the short term.”
