RAPIDS SIGNING MAKES HIS MARK AS PSL LEADING WICKET-TAKER

Worcestershire 2024 Vitality Blast overseas signing, Usama Mir, finished as the leading wicket-taker in the Pakistan Super League.

The leg spinner, who is returning to New Road for a second Blast campaign, picked up 24 wickets in 12 innings for Multan Sultans.

His tally included Mir’s T20 personal best of 6-40 against home side Lahore Qalandars during the group stages.

Mir’s superb efforts helped the Sultans reach the final where they lost by two wickets to Islamabad United off the final ball.

It followed on from another Worcestershire 2024 overseas signing in Nathan Smith being voted New Zealand’s domestic player of the year with Wellington.

Worcestershire fans have already seen Mir’s qualities at first hand in helping the Rapids reach the Blast quarter-finals last summer.

He topped the Rapids batting and bowling averages and was their second highest wicket-taker with 19 scalps.

Smith will be flying in to England for the opening Vitality County Championship match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston starting on April 5 after Wellington’s current Plunket Shield match with Northern Districts.
