Worcestershire’s players are back home to continue their preparations for the 2024 season after a successful winter in Australia and South Africa.
Ethan Brookes, Ed Pollock, Josh Baker, Adam Finch and Gareth Roderick have all made sizeable contributions with their respective clubs.
They join up with their other teammates, who returned from a 10 day training camp in Desert Springs on Thursday, for pre-season starting today (March 18).
New signing Brookes hit three centuries for Prahran CC in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition and also chipped in with useful wickets.
Baker reached the 50 wicket mark for Northern District CC in the New South Wales Premier Cricket tournament and helped them win the Limited Overs Cup with 3-29 in the final against Western Suburbs.
Pollock was a model of consistency in the same competition for St. George CC with a top score of 116 and he scored freely throughout the winter.
Finch showed that he is back to full fitness after his back injury with several impressive performances for Sturt CC after linking up with them for the second half of the campaign.
In South Africa, Roderick captained Green Point and led by example in the Western Province Premier Division with 633 runs in 15 innings at 48.70 with one century – against Western Province CC – and six fifties.
Worcestershire Assistant head Coach, Kadeer Ali, said: “Whenever you spend a winter away, it only can benefit you with the cricket and from a personal life point of view as well.
“Being away, looking after yourself, making sure you are up to speed with your training and anything that is going on physically and mentally.
“A good winter is always a positive one, getting away, and playing outside can only do you good.
“For someone like Finchy, who was injured at the back end of the year, absolutely fantastic for him to get out and play some cricket and hopefully when he comes back, he is ready to go.”
