CLUB CAPTAIN: BENEFITS OF TRIP TO DESERT SPRINGS

Club Captain, Brett D’Oliveira, believes Worcestershire will reap the benefits of their training camp in Desert Springs as part of their preparations for the 2024 season.

Players and coaches flew out to Spain for the second year running on Monday (March 4) for the 10 day trip.

D’Oliveira said: “Last year was a great experience, the facilities were really good, and we are hoping for much more of the same.

“It is going to be really beneficial going into pre-season and season having had some time spent outside in Desert Springs and then back at Kidderminster.

“It is a change of scenery, with everything you can do outdoors.

“It is important getting the feel of bat on ball on a grass pitch again. You can’t replicate it indoors, however much you try.

“It’s so different when you go outside and we are lucky to get the opportunity to go to Desert Springs.”

New signing, Tom Taylor, echoed D ‘Oliveira’s sentiments.

He said: “Every cricketer that has spent the winter indoors is crying out to go outdoors and practice at this stage.

“I was lucky in that I had 11 days in Dubai to experience some T10 stuff just before Christmas with Chennai Braves.

“It was a great experience and I’m sure Desert Springs will be of great benefit as well.”
