Former England and Glamorgan batter, Matthew Maynard, will be the Worcestershire Cricket Society’s final guest speaker of the 2023-2024 winter programme on Tuesday, March 12 in the Graeme Hick Pavilion (7.30pm start).
Maynard scored 54 first class hundreds for Glamorgan and he ended his career having scored 22,764 first class runs at an average of 43.11 – the third highest number of runs in the Welsh county’s history.
Maynard also amassed 13,506 List A runs at 36.80 with 16 centuries.
He became the youngest ever Glamorgan player to score 1,000 runs in a season in 1986 and a Test debut followed in 1988 against the West Indies at The Oval.
Maynard was selected for four Tests and 14 ODIs and his most prolific season was in 1991 when he scored 1,803 runs at 60.10 with seven hundreds but he passed the 1,000 mark on 13 occasions.
He captained Glamorgan for five years from 1995 and, along with coach Duncan Fletcher, led them to the 1997 County Championship title.
Maynard was appointed England Assistant Coach in 2004 and was part of the support staff for the infamous 2005 Ashes triumph.
He went onto become Glamorgan Cricket Manager (2007-2010), Somerset Director Of Cricket (2014-2016) and Glamorgan Head Coach (2019-2023).
