Josh Baker played a key role in Northern District CC winning the New South Wales Premier Cricket Limited Overs Cup first grade final on Sunday.
The Worcestershire spinner returned his side’s best figures of 9.1-2-29-3 to help secure a 102 win over Western Suburbs CC in the final.
Baker was the sixth bowler used and came into the attack for the 25th over and he soon began to make inroads into the Western Suburbs batting.
He dismissed Liam Sparke (17) in his second over, Hanno Jacobs (15) in his seventh and Muhammad Irfan (37) to wrap up the innings.
Baker bowled all his overs in one spell as Western Suburbs were dismissed for 150 in 42.1 overs.
He had not been required to bat in a Northern District total of 252-6 in 50 overs of which Lachlan Shaw scored 117.
Baker has also been part of the side for a New South Wales Premier Cricket first grade meeting with UTS North Sydney CC on the previous day.
He has yet to bat after Northern District ended day one on 283-6 in a match to be concluded next weekend.
In the same competition, Ed Pollock’s side, St. George CC, were restricted to 19.1 overs action as Hawkesbury CC scored 51-1 on day one before rain intervened.
Adam Finch made the first breakthrough for Sturt CC who completed an innings and 47 runs win over Southern District CC in the South Australia Cricket Association first grade encounter.
Finch dismissed captain David Sboro (4) and had figures of 11-3-16-1 to follow on from his 7-0-15-2 in the first innings.
Southern District were dismissed for 131 in 69.4 overs in their second innings after Sturt had declared on 260-7 – a first innings lead of 178.
Ethan Brookes club, Prahran CC, played a two-day Victorian Premier Cricket fixture with Casey South Melbourne CC over the weekend and were beaten by 26 runs.
Brookes ended with figures of 9-2-37-1 on day one as Casey South Melbourne were bowled out for 271. He went in at number four on day two and was lbw for seven as Prahran were bowled out for 245.
Joe Stanley scored 13 after opening and returned 10-2-34-1 with the ball as his side, Railways (189) went down by two wickets to Manypeaks (191-8) in the Albany and Districts Cricket Association competition.
Reeve Evitts helped Keilor CC defeat Druids CC by three wickets in a Victorian Turf Cricket Association fixture.
He picked up two lower order wickets with the ball and finished with 2-41 from 6.1 overs as Druids were bowled out for 204.
Evitts then opened and scored 18 off 36 balls as Keilor reached 205-7 to win with 10.1 overs to spare.
