Former Worcestershire pace bowler Charlie Morris will be the guest speaker when Worcestershire Cricket Society stage their penultimate winter cricket evening of 2023-2024 in the Graeme Hick Pavilion on Monday 12 February (7.30pm start).
Charlie sadly had to hang up his spikes during the early part of last summer at the age of 30 with a knee injury suffered mid-way through the 2022 season.
He played for Worcestershire for a decade and was a popular player with members and team-mates alike at New Road.
Alan Richardson’s retirement during the early part of 2014 left a gaping hole to fill in the Worcestershire attack after taking 254 Championship wickets in four years.
But Charlie, Jack Shantry and Joe Leach stepped up and helped Worcestershire to promotion to Division One of the County Championship.
Charlie ended the campaign with 56 wickets and clocked up another 50 during the following season in the top flight.
He showed his character and mettle in returning to action after a two year battle to remodel his action and in 2019 achieved his career best figures of 19.3-9-45-7 in the away innings victory over Leicestershire.
That same summer Charlie also scored his maiden half century for the first team against an Australian attack including Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.
In 2021 he finished as Worcestershire’s leading wicket-taker in the Vitality Blast with 17 scalps.
His final appearance for Worcestershire came in July 2022 during the Championship win over Middlesex at Merchant Taylor’s School.
