PROLIFIC OPENER JAKE LIBBY COMMITS TO FOUR MORE YEARS WITH WORCESTERSHIRE

Prolific opener Jake Libby has signed a new four-year contract at Worcestershire, committing himself to New Road until the end of the 2027 season. Libby, renowned for his prolific run-scoring, and is targeting trophies and becoming established in Division One of the County Championship during the next phase of his career.

Since his move from Nottinghamshire in 2019, Libby has been a cornerstone of Worcestershire’s batting lineup, amassing more first-class runs than any other player in the country – a staggering 3,414. His exceptional form includes a personal best of 1153 runs last season, averaging 57.65, with four centuries and five fifties.

Libby expressed his delight in continuing with Worcestershire, citing the club’s potential for Division One success and his role in captaining the 50 over side as key motivators. “We’ve got a great squad, and I’m excited about the challenges of next season and beyond. There’s no reason why we can’t compete for, and win, trophies – that’s what excites me the most,” said Libby.

Since the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Libby has averaged over 50, demonstrating his leadership and consistency. He emphasised his role as a senior player and his commitment to supporting Captain Brett D’Oliveira in steering the team to new heights.

Worcestershire CEO, Ashley Giles, echoed Libby’s enthusiasm. “Securing Jake for another four years is fantastic for the club. His consistency and leadership have been instrumental in our recent successes, and he will undoubtedly be a key figure in our pursuit of Division One triumphs.”

With the new season on the horizon, Worcestershire looks forward to building on last summer’s achievements, including promotion in the Championship and reaching the quarter-finals of the Vitality Blast and Metro Bank One Day Cup.
