Worcestershire Assistant Head Coach, Kadeer Ali, is looking forward to being part of the England Under-19 coaching set-up for the ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa early in the New Year.
Kadeer was a Worcestershire player when he represented England in the 2002 Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand in a squad which included future full internationals Tim Bresnan, Nick Compton and Samit Patel.
Now he will be in the batting coach role for the 15th Under-19 World Cup and pass on his experience and knowledge to the latest group of young talent under Head Coach, Michael Yardy.
Kadeer has already worked with the Under-19s last winter in Australia and, more recently, last month as part of a Quadrangular Series in India which also involved India Under-19s A, India Under-19s B and Bangladesh Under-19s.
He will fly out with the other coaches and squad on January 5 ahead of England’s group matches against Scotland (January 13), South Africa (January 16) and West Indies (January 19).
Kadeer said: “The World Cup in January and February will be an amazing experience. Michael Yardy spoke to me a couple of months ago and I’m delighted to be involved again.
“I was lucky enough to play in an Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand in 2002 and I still cherish that as one of the highlights of my career.
“To go to another now, as part of a coaching set-up, will be another fantastic experience and a great opportunity to continue learning and developing as a coach.
“I’ve learnt so much at Worcestershire and now to be in different environments, different conditions, being able to talk to and learn from other coaches can only be of benefit.
“It will be great for the boys to play against some of the best young players in the world and, for me, to be part of an England set-up, at any level, is brilliant.”
