OVERSEAS PLAYER ROUND-UP – DECEMBER 2 AND 3 2023

Josh Baker returned his best figures of the winter to help Northern District CC to a five wicket win over Sutherland CC in a New South Wales second grade 50 over match.

The Worcestershire spinner came on second change and bowled three spells and ended with 9-3-26-4 as Sutherland were dismissed for 157 in 48 overs.

It means his overall figures so far for Northern District are 15 wickets at an average of 11 runs apiece, and an economy rate of just 2.4 runs per over.

Baker came into the attack initially for the 12th over and dismissed Sutherland captain Nicholas Amos for a duck.

His second spell brought him the wickets of Lachlan Ritchie (11) and Kieran Weatherall (1).

Baker then held onto a return catch to account for Zac Phillipson (17) when he came back into the firing line for a third time.

Baker was not required to bat as Jon Whealing (52 not out) and Daniel Anderson (52) were chiefly responsible for securing a five wicket win in just 28.2 overs.

Ed Pollock struck a quickfire 33 and was also on the winning side for St. George CC in a New South Wales first grade two-day encounter with Sydney University played over the weekend.

Pollock hit four boundaries in his 38-ball knock batting at number six on day one.

St. George batted consistently down the order to total 307 in 95.4 overs and then on Sunday (day two) bowled out their opponents for 273 in 87 overs.

Cameron Jones impressed with bat and bat but finished on the losing side for Collingwood Park CC in an Albany and District Cricket Association ‘A’ grade meeting with Railways CC.

Jones took the new ball and was rewarded with the first three wickets including captain Billy O’Meara and vice-captain Mohit Jaggi.

Railways were 56-3 when Jones claimed his third scalp but recovered to total 218 in 49.4 overs.

Jones’ final figures were 10-3-22-3.

He then came into bat at number nine and made an unbeaten 30 from 31 balls with three boundaries.

But Jones lost the strike to the first ball of the final over after taking a single and was at the non-striker’s end when the final wicket fell on 212 with one ball remaining.

Gareth Roderick was dismissed for 7 but skippered Green Point CC to a 37 run win over Kraaifontein CC in the Western province Premier Division.

Green Point totalled 267-9 after being put in and then Roderick held onto two catches as their opponents were dismissed for 230 in 47 overs.

New Worcestershire signing, Ethan Brookes, had a blank weekend as Prahran CC’s Victorian Premier League first grade fixture with Fitzroy Doncaster was washed out.

Adam Hose made 17 off 7 balls but his side, Northern Warriors (135-5) went down by two runs to Bangla Tigers (137-4) in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

Hose struck four successive boundaries off Daniel Sams as Warriors reached 100-1 in the sixth over.

He was eventually caught behind off Josh Little and the Warriors just short of their target.
