Worcestershire supporters can look forward to a feast of weekend cricket being played at New Road across all three formats during the 2024 season.
The opening block of County Championship matches in April and May are all set for a Friday start.
In addition, the Vitality Blast and Metro Bank One Day Cup are well represented at New Road over weekends during the summer and it is a move being welcomed by those cricket followers who work during the week and love coming to the club’s iconic venue on their days off.
But it is also a similar picture for Worcestershire’s away fixtures for those loyal fans who like to travel and support the Pears away from New Road.
Newly promoted Worcestershire will play three home Championship games during the April-May period against Durham, Somerset and Nottinghamshire, beginning on a Friday.
The latter fixture also has the bonus of incorporating a Whitsun Bank Holiday Monday on May 27.
The Championship matches later in the season with reigning champions, Surrey, Kent and Lancashire at New Road also incorporate weekend cricket
The Rapids will twice be in home Blast action on Sundays but for many followers of the T20 game ‘the weekend starts here’ on Friday evenings when three fixtures are pencilled in at New Road.
The One Day Cup is also well represented with two home encounters and brings the overall total of weekend days of first team cricket at New Road – plus the Bank Holiday Monday – to 16.
On the road, supporters will be able to watch Worcestershire in action on Saturday-Sunday on 14 occasions plus three Friday evening Blast matches.
Worcestershire Chief Executive, Ashley Giles, said: “We often get feedback from members and supporters saying they wished there was more weekend cricket.
“With 30 days home and away when Worcestershire are playing this summer, the equivalent of 15 full weekends, we hope they are more satisfied with this year’s fixture list.
“The switch to a Friday start for the first half of the Championship programme, and three Friday nights and two Sundays in the Vitality Blast at New Road, plus One-Day Cup games, it means there is a lot of weekend cricket throughout the summer.”
