Head Coach Alan Richardson is looking for another solid performance from Worcestershire to put the seal on an excellent season in the LV=Insurance County Championship.
Worcestershire need a maximum of two more points from their final game against Yorkshire at Headingley to guarantee a return to Division One for the 2024 season.
They collected eight more points from the rain-hit drawn encounter with champions Durham at New Road.
Richardson emphasised that Worcestershire will approach the game in the same manner as every other one this summer.
He said: “Only need two points? We have to think about not changing how we’ve gone about the rest of the season.
“Every game that we’ve played, we’ve picked up points, and enough points to get to a situation where we know what we need next week.
“We go with the intent to try and win the game first and foremost and try and pick up as many bonus points as we can.
“If we do that, and concentrate on doing that, the game will look after itself. I’d rather be in our position but, for us, it’s all about putting in another solid performance.”
Richardson was pleased with how Worcestershire acquitted themselves for the majority of the game against Durham.
He said: “Reflections on the game? Frustrating for quite a bit of it, missing so much of it through rain, but ultimately we put in a pretty good performance for the vast majority of it.
“That was the starting point for us going into these last two games, to try and put in some strong performances.
“Whilst it didn’t go our way today, as well as we would have liked it to, and we were disappointed at moments in the game, we did enough to get as many points as we could out of the game with the time we had out on the field.
“We had some really nice partnerships. Gareth Roderick and Jake Libby up the top, and some really crucial ones throughout, but lots of starts and no-one going on which might be the nature of the pitch a little bit.
“There was always something going on so, even if you were in, there was potentially a ball for you.
“Brett D’Oliveira at the start of the game said that if we bat first, we carry on playing the way we have, to defend straight and be as aggressive as we could or have that intent when the ball was there to be hit.
“We did that for large parts and to score over 300 and get those two points was really pleasing for us.
“Over the last three or four games we’ve bowled well as a unit. We didn’t do that in this game, and we will be slightly disappointed as we were as a unit, but we’ve been really impressive over the last couple of months so we still take great heart from that.
“Fair play to Durham, they put a lot of pressure back on us as a bowling unit, and that was a good test for us, and made it really difficult.”
