LEACH: CONSISTENCY SHOWN BY BOWLERS IN TRIO OF WINS KEY FACTOR

Joe Leach says the consistency shown by the Worcestershire attack in the past three games has been a crucial factor in their surge up the table into the second promotion spot in the LV=Insurance County Championship.

Worcestershire have taken 62 points out of a possible 72 to move 18 clear of third placed Sussex heading into Tuesday’s top-two encounter with Durham at New Road (10.30am start).

They bowled out Leicestershire at Oakham, Gloucestershire at Cheltenham and Glamorgan at New Road in both innings of all three games and showed great discipline, accuracy and determination as a unit.

Leach said: “It is something we identified in the early games, where we weren’t quite managing to string innings together or large enough spells.

“The last three games in particular have been outstanding. Oakham was a really bowler-friendly surface, Cheltenham was an outstanding bowling unit performance and also again versus Glamorgan.

“It’s been different people stepping in, and different people have got wickets at different times and that’s the beauty of things.

“If you bowl as a unit for 14 games, then people will put their hand up at different times.

“Logan (van Beek) got the wickets in the last game. It probably could have been anyone of us at any different time, and that was the same at Cheltenham and Oakham as well.”

Worcestershire have their destiny in their own hands going into the finale of the season.

Leach said: “I think it is right that we acknowledge that we are in a good place. We’ve played some really good cricket up to this point to give ourselves the best possible chance.

“If we perform, we know what can happen at the end of September, but we also know the flip side of that, and that’s why two division cricket is so exciting.

“If we string together two similar performances in the last two games then we will be well placed. I’m not overly concerned who we are playing. We just have to do our business and see what happens.”
