HURSTHOUSE HITS HALF CENTURY FOR ACADEMY IN ECB FINAL

Louis Hursthouse struck an unbeaten half century for Worcestershire Academy (Under-18s) in the final of the ECB Under-18 County One Day Cup Plate against Surrey at Kibworth CC.

Hursthouse came to the wicket at 98-6 after Worcestershire had been put into bat and helped his side reach 207 all out in 44.2 overs.

He put on 45 for the seventh wicket with keeper-batter Seth Essenhigh (23) and another 57 for the ninth with Ben Clarke (18).

Hursthouse ended unbeaten on 57 from 64 balls with three sixes and two fours.

Cameron Jones (24) and Jack Home (31) had also made useful contributions after Worcestershire had been 22-3 at one stage.

When Surrey batted, Harry Darley (8-1-22-1) and Reeve Evitts (5.4-0-33-1) reduced them to 52-2.

But that was their last success as AS Karpe (80 not out) and SP van der Merwe (79 not out) put on an unbroken 158 to see Surrey to victory in 43.4 overs.
