Logan van Beek has set his sights on playing a key role for Worcestershire in their pursuit of glory in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup and promotion in the LV=Insurance County Championship.
The all-rounder is delighted to link up with Worcestershire at a stage of the campaign when there is so much to play for and hoping to produce some match-winning performances.
New Zealand born Van Beek is set to make his debut in tomorrow’s One-Day Cup encounter with Gloucestershire at New Road (11 am start)
The Netherlands international said: “It’s fantastic to be coming here at a crucial stage of the season for the team.
“I saw the table last week and it is exciting to come into a group that are playing well and hopefully you can add value to that momentum.
“It’s always nice to be playing for something and that is going to keep the energy alive for the next few weeks I’m here.
“Hopefully I can put in some match winning performances to help guarantee promotion and see if we can lift this One-Day Cup.”
Van Beek said Rapids Vitality Blast player and fellow New Zealander Michael Bracewell had nothing but praise for Worcestershire before injury cut short his stay this summer.
He said: “I’m very close to Michael Bracewell. We’ve shared accommodation in the past, we’ve played together for Wellington and he is a very close friend of mine.
“He had an exciting period ahead of him in the Blast and then the Hundred and the ICC World Cup and to see his injury on the Worcestershire live stream was heartbreaking.
“He said he loved his time here and the environment and the guys and everything around Worcestershire and the city was really enjoyable. He had nothing but good things to stay.”
Van Logan said he had mixed emotions after creating worldwide headlines when hitting 30 for the Netherlands off a Super Over in a ICC World Cup qualifier against West Indies as the bowler – Jason Holder – is one of his best friends.
He said: “At the time I wasn’t really thinking much, it was a case of ‘see ball, hit ball’ and it happened.
“It was a pretty crazy 20 minutes of my life but I remember being very calm and relaxed and I knew I could something spectacular.
“I didn’t realise it was going to be in that fashion but now we are a month or two on from there, it is something nice to look back on and know you are capable of doing something spectacular like that.
“For me, it’s about building on that performance and seeing if I can keep stacking those performances and add to the resume of match-winning performances. That’s how I want to be remembered.
“Jason is a very close friend of mine. I’ve got a lot of respect for Jason. He is a fantastic cricketer and we went for dinner a couple of nights before that game and we play golf together quite a lot.
“It was kind of bittersweet because I know what it is like to be in his position bowling those overs.
“It was probably mixed emotions but he was full of class and he came back to me and was very happy for me. We are on good terms if anyone was wondering! He is a class act and a resilient guy.”
