OLLY COX TOP SCORES FOR SECONDS IN LAST DAY BATTLE WITH LANCASHIRE

Olly Cox top-scored with 90 as Worcestershire Seconds went down by 21 runs in a Championship match with Lancashire Seconds at Northern CC, Crosby, Liverpool.

It brought an end to Worcestershire sequence of three successive Championship wins after a see-saw final day.

After the loss of the opening two days to rain, Worcestershire bowled out the home side for 251 on day three and then the two sides reached an agreement to set up a fourth day finish.

Worcestershire were challenged to score 294 and lost four wickets for 39 runs.

But rookie professionals Cox and keeper-batter Henry Cullen then added 161 for the fifth wicket.

Cox struck one six and 10 fours in his 97-ball knock before he was fifth out with the total on 200.

Cullen made 72 from 116 deliveries with eight boundaries before he was dismissed at 229-6.

Triallist Ollie Sutton, who had played in the win over Derbyshire earlier in the season, made an unbeaten half century from just 59 balls.

But the last four wickets fell in the space of nine overs as Worcestershire were bowled out for 273 in 67 overs.

Harry Darley and Sutton had picked up two wickets apiece in Lancashire’s first innings.

Captain Taylor Cornall (29 not out) and Kashif Ali (30 not out) scored quickly before Worcestershire declared 192 behind on 59-1.

Lancashire reached 102-3 declared in their second innings with Academy captain Joe Stanley, triallist Matt Burton and Cox each collecting one scalp.
