JOY FOR JOSH TONGUE WITH THREE WICKET TEST BLAST AT LORD’S

Worcestershire pace bowler Josh Tongue was mobbed by his England team-mates after claiming his first Test wicket on day two of the one-off encounter with Ireland at Lord’s.

The 25-year-old was full of joy after he made the opening breakthrough in Ireland’s second innings when trapping Peter Moor (11) lbw to a ball angled back into the right hander.

He was congratulated by all the England players and then struck again later in the same over after coming on first change.

Andrew Balbirinie (2) played a loose looking shot outside the off stump and feathered through to keeper Jonny Bairstow.

Tongue posed all sorts of problems and picked up his third wicket when Paul Stirling (15) was also caught behind.

He tried to work away a delivery which bounced on him and Bairstow clung onto a legside chance.

Stirling was given not out but England reviewed and replays showed the ball had brushed Stirling’s glove.

Tongue, who had bowled 13 overs for 40 runs in Ireland’s first innings, was rested after a superb spell of 8-1-27-3.
