WORCESTERSHIRE TRIO QUICKLY MAKE THEIR MARK IN OPENING BLOCK OF GAMES

Worcestershire batter, Jack Haynes, and pace bowlers, Joe Leach and Ben Gibbon, have quickly made their mark during the first block of LV=Insurance County Championship matches in 2023.

Haynes is the third highest run-scorer in Division Two after the first three matches and Leach and Gibbon are the joint second highest wicket-takers.

Scores of 62 in the win over Derbyshire and a career best 134 not out versus Durham have helped Haynes total 246 runs at an average of 61.50.

Only Durham’s David Bedingham (257) and Leicestershire’s Colin Ackermann (253) have scored more runs than the 22-year-old.

The new ball attack of Leach and Gibbon have both so far picked up 11 wickets.

Leach impressed with five wickets against Derbyshire and then his 4-49 in the first innings versus Gloucestershire helped reduce them to 45-7 on the opening day.

Gibbon has continued the promise he demonstrated in his debut season and his 4-92 against Durham helped him achieve career best match figures of 6-147.

Only Gloucestershire’s Tom Price and Durham’s Matthew Kuhnemann (12) are ahead of the Worcestershire duo.
