Worcestershire Assistant Head Coach, Kadeer Ali, has received further recognition by being selected as an Assistant Coach for The Hundred by Birmingham Phoenix.
Kadeer will be working alongside Phoenix Head Coach, Daniel Vettori, and fellow Assistant Coaches, Ian Bell and James Franklin, during the tournament.
It follows on from Kadeer having spells as England Under-19 batting coach during the past two years and he is looking at the opportunity to further his coaching education.
But he also is hoping to pick up information which will be of benefit when he returns to Worcestershire for the finale of the summer.
Kadeer will be reunited with his brother and former Worcestershire player, Moeen Ali, who will be skippering the Phoenix.
He said: “I’m delighted, to get an opportunity to work in The Hundred will be brilliant.
“Over the last three years, I’ve had a couple of days when I’ve gone in and helped out with the training day and matchday.
“Just to see the whole Hundred and the franchise, it was fantastic to be around that for a couple of days.
“But now to get an opportunity to be part of the competition as one of the assistant coaches is really exciting and I’m looking forward to it.”
Kadeer added: “It could be a huge curving curve. I’ve been lucky enough over the last few years to be in different environments with the England Under-19s and, at Worcestershire, being promoted to Assistant Head Coach was a fantastic opportunity for me.
“Now this is another one that I’m looking forward to, working under Daniel Vettori and alongside Ian Bell and James Franklin who have got so much experience in the game.
“For me to be around those guys, will be a nice opportunity to just keep picking their brains and keep trying to see how they work and bring back as much as I can to Worcestershire in terms of ideas and how guys around the world go about their coaching business.
“I’ve been lucky enough to do a couple of years at Worcestershire under Richo (Alan Richardson) who I think is a brilliant coach and I keep learning off him and Alex (Gidman) before that.”
As to being reunited with Moeen, Kadeer said: “I can’t wait for that. When I first came to Worcestershire, he was captain and really looking forward to working alongside Mo again.
“We had a little bit of a stint at Worcestershire before he left and he has been busy with England over the last few years.
“That was something that drew me when Craig Flindall (General Manager of Birmingham Phoenix) rang me about the role.
“It was one of the things that came into my mind to work with my brother again. It was an opportunity that was hard for me to turn down.”
The Phoenix begin their group campaign in a week’s time when they take on Oval Invincibles on July 23 on the opening day of the tournament.
