Tim Jones’ book on the 61 set to be published

Worcestershire Heritage Group Co-Ordinator, Tim Jones, is set to publish in early May his second who’s who of Worcestershire cricketers, entitled ’61 for 1, Worcestershire’s One Championship Match Cricketers.’

As the title indicates, it’s a book chronicling the careers and lives of the 61 players who have played just one game of Championship cricket for the County.

It follows on from Tim’s book of a couple of years ago ‘The 52, Worcestershire’s Forgotten First Class Cricketers.’

For anyone interested in the history of Worcestershire cricket, Tim’s latest book is another fascinating read.

If you are interested in knowing who played rugby union for England, who is the only player to have made his first class debut during World War 1, who was the prisoner of war associated with ‘The Great Escape’ then this book will provide the answers.

Also who raced in and won the first Fastnet Race, who played an unofficial Test match for England during his time as a prisoner of war, or who bagged a pair on his only game, then purchase this publication for the answers and many more fascinating anecdotes.

Tim Jones said: “During my research, I uncovered other fascinating stories, found at least one picture of every player and have corrected the official records of several others.

“In two cases, I’ve found the identities of the players were completely incorrect – but the records are now right.”

The foreword has been written by Mike Passey, Worcestershire’s youngest ever first class-Championship cricketer who recently sadly passed away.

Tim Jones has now dedicated the book to Mike’s memory.
