Xavie Clarke Century Helps Under-17S Earn Sizeable First Innings Lead

Xavie Clarke scored a century and there were contributions all down the order as Worcestershire Under-17s achieved a first innings lead of 105 on day two of the ECB County Championship match with Hampshire Under-17s at Stourbridge.

Clarke – the younger brother of Joe – hit a run a ball 108 with 16 boundaries as Worcestershire amassed an impressive 492 all out in reply to Hampshire’s 387.

The visitors will resume tomorrow on 31-0 tomorrow – the final day – in their second innings.

Worcestershire openers Callum Lea and Bilal Hussain laid the foundations for their side with a stand of 120.

Lea, a double century-maker in the meeting between the sides at Basingstoke last summer, raced to 80 off 72 balls with 16 fours before he was first to depart.

Hussain made 54 off 106 balls with one six and seven fours and, after his dismissal at 152-2, Clarke came to the wicket.

He added 89 for the third wicket with Dan Holland (44) and 83 for the fourth with Zain Ul Hassan (36).

Clarke’s fine knock ended at 324-4 but then useful contributions down the order from Riecko Parker-Cole (40), Edward Bragg (27), Aaron Tomson (37) and George Marshall (18 not out) stretched Worcestershire’s first innings advantage.

Parker-Cole and Bragg bowled eight overs with the new ball without being able to make a breakthrough.
