Worcestershire Rapids 2016 Natwest T20 Blast signing Mitchell Santner rewrote the record books as New Zealand stunned home nation India in their opening match of the ICC World T20 in Nagpur.
Santner, who will link up with the County in early May for the start of the North Group fixtures, finished with the superb figures of 4-11 from four overs as India were routed for 79.
The all-rounder took full advantage of the spin-friendly conditions as the Black Caps triumphed by 47 runs.
Santner's performance produced the best figures by a New Zealand spinner in T20Is and the best ever analysis by a slow bowler against India in the short format of the game.
It earned him the man of the match award.
He came into the attack for the second over and with his second delivery had Rohit Sharma (5) stumped by Luke Ronchi with a ball which ripped past the outside edge.
Three deliveries later Santner was again amongst the wickets as Suresh Raina (1) lobbed an easy catch to Martin Guptill at mid-wicket off the leading edge.
Santner returned to the attack for the tenth over and again broke through with Hardik Pandya (1) caught on the back foot and trapped lbw.
Then in his final over Santner ended India's faint hopes which always existed as long as MS Dhoni was at the crease.
Dhoni made 30 off 30 balls but fell to a fine catch by Nathan McCullum at long on.
Santner had also made useful runs in the context of a low-scoring game with 18 off 17 balls after coming in at number six.
He was third highest score as New Zealand made 126-7 after opting to bat.
