Moeen Ali is amongst the nominees for the 2015 Asian Cricket Awards (ACA).
The Worcestershire all-rounder has been shortlisted for the Professional Player of the Year award alongside his England team-mate Adil Rashid and former England Under-19 captain and Warwickshire batsman Varun Chopra.
It is the second successive nomination for Moeen in this category after he scooped the top prize at last year’s inaugural ACAs.
The 28-year-old played a key role in England regaining The Ashes this summer in his lower order batting role – only Joe Root and Alastair Cook scored more runs – and also picked up 12 wickets with his off-spin.
The awards, which are held in association with the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and supported by the Club Cricket Conference, are open to people with British Asian heritage as well as to those dedicated to increasing Asian participation in British cricket.
The categories are wide-ranging and recognise all areas of the game.
As part of this, the ECB have sponsored a new award for 2015 – the Diversity Award, which is open to county cricket clubs to highlight their work engaging with their local British Asian community.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony at Lord’s on 13 October.
Speaking about the nominees ACAs co-founder Jas Jassal said: “The quality of nominations was unprecedented.
“The judging panel had a hugely difficult task in determining the shortlist from so many inspiring candidates from the Asian community in Britain.”
Jane Hannah, national volunteer and participation manager for the ECB, added: “The ECB are delighted to once again be a partner for the awards.
“The nominees this year showed an amazing amount of dedication, commitment and success in the game from grassroots through to the professional level. It was a real challenge for the judging panel to select a shortlist from so many worthy nominees.”
