Worcs In Promotion Battle As Top Five Teams Bunch Up

Worcs In Promotion Battle As Top Five Teams Bunch Up

Worcestershire are one of five teams currently bunched together in Division Two of the Specsavers County Championship in the hunt for the one promotion spot.

The County return to four-day action against Kent at Canterbury tomorrow buoyed by sealing a quarter-final spot in the Royal London One-Day Cup after last evening's win over Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

They have had an enforced break from Championship cricket during the past three weeks after impressive back to back wins over Leicestershire at New Road and Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.

But Gloucestershire's win over Essex at Cheltenham, Leicestershire's win over Gloucestershire at the same venue and Kent's drawn game with Sussex at Tunbridge Wells means they have remained in second spot.

Only 13 points separate the current top five as they head into the final third of the season.

Worcestershire have accrued the second highest number of batting points with 32 from a possible 45 in nine first innings despite the wash-out of the opening game against Kent at New Road.
