Worcestershire enforced the follow on after claiming the final four Sussex first innings wickets on day three of the Specsavers County Championship clash at New Road.
Sussex resumed on 192-6 from 70 overs and were bowled out for 278 in 97.2 overs – 213 in arrears.
Ed Barnard and Joe Leach both finished with three wickets apiece and Brett D'Oliveira two.
The visitors provided determined resistance in their second innings but the Worcestershire attack produced a disciplined display.
Barnard claimed the prized wicket of Ed Joyce shortly before the close for 74 as Sussex closed on 137-3 – still 76 in arrears.
D'Oliveira and Barnard shared the initial bowling duties this morning with 10 overs remaining before the second new ball was due
Ben Brown, who was 49 not out overnight, completed his half century off 92 balls with seven fours.
But on 55 he fell victim to Barnard when edging through to keeper Ben Cox at 204-7.
Barnard struck again in his next over when Lewis Hatchett (3) flicked him off his legs to D'Olveira at backward square leg.
The new ball was taken at 215-8 off 80 overs with Joe Leach and Matt Henry entering the attack.
Ollie Robinson and former Worcestershire paceman Steve Magoffin held up Worcestershire with a ninth wicket stand of 43.
It was Leach who ended the stand by bowling Magoffin for 20.
Further resistance came from the last wicket pair of Robinson and Stuart Whittingham who added 27.
Robinson reached an excellent half century off 118 balls with five fours.
But D'Oliveira ended the innings on 278 by bowling Whittingham (8) to leave Robinson 51 not out.
Barnard returned 3-67 from 20 overs and Leach 3-73 from 19 overs.
Sussex openers Ed Joyce and Chris Nash negotiated three overs in their side's second innings from Leach and Shantry in reaching 6-0 by lunch
When play resumed after lunch, Nash clipped a delivery from Henry just short of Joe Clarke at mid wicket.
The Sussex 50 came up in the 20th over via an off drive for four by Ed Joyce off Shantry.
But Shantry ended the stand on 54 when Nash on 26 chopped the ball onto his stumps after attempting a cut.
The tight nature of the Worcestershire bowling meant Joyce and Wells were virtually becalmed during the final session.
Their 50 stand occupied 31 overs and Wells made 11 from 110 balls without a single boundary before he edged Henry to Kohler-Cadmore at first slip at 105-2.
Joyce moved onto 74 but then the safe hands of Kohler-Cadmore again proved effective after the opener nicked a fine delivery from Barnard.
