Worcs Bid To Complete The Magnificent Seven At Hove

Worcs Bid To Complete The Magnificent Seven At Hove

Worcestershire will be bidding to achieve seven successive wins in the County Championship for only the second time in their history when they take on Sussex at Hove on Friday.

The County chalked up their fourth win of 2017 against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road to add to the two victories at the conclusion of last season.

It surpassed the five wins on the trot which had occured on four occasions – in August 1964, September 1987-May 1988, August-September 1993 and August-September 2003.

Now ahead of Worcestershire in the record books lies the run of seven Championship wins achieved in July-August 1961.

Their all-time best sequence of Championship triumphs is eight – from August 1965 to May 1966.

For the record, Worcestershire put together four Championship victories in a row in 1909, 1911, 1947, 1964, 2006 and 2014.

Worcestershire's superb start to the current campaign means they are part of a three strong group of teams who are currently well clear of the rest of the division.

Nottinghamshire lead the way on 104 points – four more than Kent – but Worcestershire on 91 out of a posible 96 have a game in hand

The only points they have dropped to date were the five batting points in the low-scoring meeting with Northants at New Road.
