WORCESTERSHIRE LEGEND GRAEME HICK SAYS MATTHEW WADE IS “GREAT OVERSEAS SIGNING” AT NEW ROAD

Worcestershire CCC legend, Graeme Hick, has given a ringing endorsement of the qualities of 2022 overseas signing Matthew Wade.

Hick worked closely with Wade during his spells as High Performance Coach and Specialist Batting Coach for Cricket Australia.

He believes wicket-keeper batsman Wade is currently playing his best cricket and will be a “wonderful asset” to New Road’s young group of players.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup winner Wade can play all three formats for Worcestershire during the summer.

Hick, who amassed a total of 48,766 runs and 140 centuries for Worcestershire, said: “I think Mathew is a great overseas signing for the club.

“I believe he is actually playing his best cricket at the moment. He is able to win a game single-handedly across all three formats of the game.

“Over the last few years, while he has been focusing more on his batting, he has learnt to understand his game more and is playing what I like to refer to as ‘proper cricket shots’ to great success.

“He will also be a wonderful asset around the young group as he is a winner, has great leadership qualities and the maturity to challenge players, in the right way, to better themselves.

“I’m sure that Mathew, Julia and his young family, will enjoy the environment and friendly hospitable people of Worcestershire.”

Hick is set to return to England for a few weeks this summer and said: “I’m already looking forward to my slice of chocolate sponge cake from the Ladies Pavilion!”
