Worcestershire keeper-batter, Gareth Roderick, has been appointed the new first-team captain of Cape Town side Green Point.
Roderick confirmed he has taken over as the new permanent captain and will skipper the side for the remainder of his spell in South Africa this winter.
He will lead Green Point in two games in 24 hours in the Western Province Cricket Association Premier Division.
They take on Belville tomorrow (Friday) and then will face Rylands on Saturday, their final games before the festive break.
Roderick had a spell as Gloucestershire’s official red-ball captain before making a move to New Road two seasons ago.
He flew out to South Africa immediately after the end of the 2022 domestic season at New Road.
Roderick has produced a string of consistent performances this winter for Green Point, and his last two innings produced scores of 90 versus Durbanville and 66 not out against FBTC Brackenfell.
Over in Australia, keeper-batter Henry Cullen has helped Plenty Valley move into play-off contention in the Victoria Cricket Association competition – but they face a big test in their final game before the break for the festive season.
Cullen and Plenty Valley are within six points, or the equivalent of one victory, of the top six after back-to-back away wins over Strathmore and Port Melbourne.
Now they entertain leaders, Ormond, at their Yarrambat War Memorial Park ground on Saturday (December 17).
Worcestershire left-armer Ben Gibbon will be aiming to help Willetton cement their place in the top six of the Western Australia Cricket Association first-grade competition when they travel to face Fremantle at the weekend.
Gibbon has successfully started his spell in Perth in T20 and first-grade cricket. The top six teams qualify for the knockout phase.
Batter, Olly Cox, is back home after two and a half months Down Under.
Cox has had a short spell playing for Eastern Suburbs CC in the New South Wales first grade, hitting a century on his debut against Gordon CC.
He also participated in the International Cricket Programme in Sydney from mid-October.
