The intention of this plan is to provide direction to Worcestershire sourced players, families and staff into what Worcestershire CCC looks to do and how we intend to do it.

What does the team need from me now?

To be able to consistently and effectively execute what the team needs from them now, players are supported to develop options and skills too…

Read the Game (Structure):

“With high class basics, skills and options increases the ability to be accurate and effect the game”.

Managing Their Mindset (Intensity): 

“Mastering the mind allows the player greater agility in the intensity required to effect the game”. 

What will help players effect games?

When batting play to your strengths with the aim of scoring runs.

When bowling aim to bowl your best ball as often as possible, whilst carrying a threat.

Approach fielding with a wicket taking mentality.

Show confidence what catching, throwing and stopping a hard cricket ball. 

U10-U13 Foundation Phase

Players are encouraged to speak in front of the group and to feedback to each other.

Players are asked to articulate what the plan is for the next phase of the team’s innings.

Batters:

A consistent and effective bat path.

Balanced when striking the ball.

Defend straight.

Leave exceptionally well.

Steal singles.

Put the bad ball away.

Bowlers:

A willingness to attempt to hit the top of off stump every ball.

Energy going towards the target over a strong back leg/foot contact position.

Fielders:

Bring energy and enthusiasm when it comes to fielding.

Confidence of catching, stopping and throwing a hard cricket ball.

Getting physical & used to ground contact.

Person – Understanding of self, comfortable in own skin, appropriate balance between performance and identity.

Its not about positive thinking it is about taking positive action no matter what you feel. 

U14-U16 Development Phase

Learning to articulate the batsman’s strengths and weaknesses.

A clear preference for two or three scoring options vs spin/pace.

Players are a good judge of a single and maximises opportunities for twos and threes, and are fit enough to do so

Minimising NO BALLS

Equally competent bowling to left- and right-hand batters.

Fielders:

Bring energy and enthusiasm when it comes to fielding.

Person – Understanding of self, comfortable in own skin, appropriate balance between performance and identity.

U17-U19 Confirmation Phase

Have a game to apply and absorb pressure.

Batters:

A consistent and effective bat path.

Balanced when striking the ball.

Defend straight.

Leave exceptionally well.

Steal singles.

Put the bad ball away.

A clear preference for two or three scoring options vs spin/pace.

Players are a good judge of a single and maximises opportunities for twos and threes, and are fit enough to do so

Learning different positions & guards at the crease to counteract various bowler types & conditions.

Bowlers:

A willingness to attempt to hit the top of off stump every ball.

Energy going towards the target over a strong back leg/foot contact position.

Minimising NO BALLS

Equally competent bowling to left- and right-hand batters.

Aiming to be superior in at least two of pace, movement, control, bounce.

Dedicated time to practice the yorker and bouncer.

Fielders:

Bring energy and enthusiasm when it comes to fielding.

Confidence of catching, stopping and throwing a hard cricket ball.

Field with a wicket taking mentality.

Getting physical & used to ground contact.

Person – Understanding of self, comfortable in own skin, appropriate balance between performance and identity.
