Worcestershire CCC 2022 overseas player Matthew Wade heads into Christmas as one of the leading scorers in the Big Bash League after playing a key role in Hobart Hurricanes 24 run home win over Melbourne Stars.
Wade shared in an opening partnership of 93 in 9.3 overs with Ben McDermott to lay the foundations of the Hurricanes 180-6.
The opening batsman, who is available to play all formats for Worcestershire, scored 39 off 27 balls with two sixes and two fours.
It lifted his run tally to 169 from five innings at a strike rate of 153.63 in the tournament, the sixth highest overall.
Melbourne Stars were then restricted to 156-9 in reply as the Hurricanes kept alive their hopes of reaching the knockout stages with their second win.
Wade set the tone with a four and six off successive balls in the second over from Brody Couch.
He also struck Clint Hinchliffe over the boundary before falling to a diving catch in the deep off Nathan Coulter-Nile.
McDermott went onto make 67 with one-time Worcestershire T20 player, Andre Russell, returning 3-48.
Wade then stumped former New Road batsman Joe Clarke (52) off D’Arcy Short as the Hurricanes ended comfortable winners.
