WOMEN’S RAPIDS TOP T20 GROUP AFTER DOUBLE SUCCESS OVER SHROPSHIRE

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids completed a double over Shropshire Women at Bromsgrove CC to clinch the top spot in T20 Group Two of the ECB Women’s County Championship.

In game one, another half-century from Georgina Macey plus fine bowling from Ellie Anderson, Sarah Glenn and Clare Boycott sealed a 57 run win.

In game two, youngster Amy Maund’s superb spell with the new ball helped complete a 59 run success in a low-scoring encounter.

It means the Rapids have won five of their six group matches, and they will head into next Sunday’s finals day at Falkland CC, Berkshire, in a confident mood.

The Rapids were put in to bat in Game One and totalled 164-6, with Macey following up her fifty against Berkshire by making 55 from 40 balls.

She hit nine boundaries and put on 58 for the second wicket with Ami Campbell (26).

After her dismissal, captain Chloe Hill (20 off 18 balls) and Emily Arlott (24 off 16) added 37 in only 3.4 overs to ensure a substantial total.
When Shropshire batted, Arlott (3-0-23-1) and Anderson both picked up an early wicket.

After a partnership of 48, Hannah Hardwick removed Harriet Shuker (23) and then Boycott (4-0-20-2) and England spinner Glenn (4-0-15-2) exercised a tight grip on the Shropshire batters.

Anderson (2.2-0-8-3) returned to polish off the tail as Shropshire were dismissed for 107 in 18.2 overs after losing their last seven wickets for 21 runs.

Run-scoring was a harder task in game two in which the Rapids chose to bat.

Macey (30) and Milly Home (23) put on 46 in 6.5 overs for the first wicket, but it needed a run a ball 31 not out from Arlott to lift the total to 122-5.

This proved more than enough, and Maund (4-0-15-3) picked up the first three wickets to reduce Shropshire to 14-3 in the fifth over.

Flora Bertwhistle (4-0-17-3) and Charis Pavely, with superb figures of 4-0-7-3, turned the screw as Shropshire were dismissed for 63 in 17.5 overs.
Glenn (3-0-10-1) and Boycott (0.5-0-0-1) were the other wicket-takers.
