WOMEN’S RAPIDS HOLD ONTO DIVISION TWO STATUS AFTER FIVE WEEK WAIT

WOMEN’S RAPIDS HOLD ONTO DIVISION TWO STATUS AFTER FIVE WEEK WAIT

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids are celebrating preserving their Division Two status in the Royal London Women’s County One Day Championship.

The Rapids completed their fixtures in early June but had to wait more than FIVE weeks to know their fate.

Somerset’s cancelled game with Devon was re-arranged for this weekend and the former could have overhauled the Rapids and relegated them if they picked up six points.

They went down by two wickets, collected only five points – two for batting and three for bowling – and finished level on 53 points with the Rapids.

But the Rapids stayed out of the bottom two by virtue of having more wins – two to one – than Somerset.

The Rapids also maintained their Division Two status in the T20 competition in similar circumstances after finishing level on points with Devon.

Somerset were relegated along with Durham while Middlesex and Berkshire finished in the top two and are promoted.
