WOMEN’S RAPIDS DUO BIDDING FOR MORE TROPHY GLORY WITH CENTRAL SPARKS

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids players Sarah Glenn and Emily Arlott will be bidding for more trophy glory with Central Sparks in the Charlotte Edwards Cup (CEC) on finals day at Northampton on Saturday.

Glenn and Arlott helped the Women’s Rapids to win the ECB Group Two T20 competition earlier in the summer when they won seven of their eight matches.

The trophy was paraded around New Road by members of the squad during Sunday’s Vitality Blast match between Worcestershire Rapids and Leicestershire Foxes.

Now Glenn and Arlott are gearing up for the CEC qualifier against South East Stars (11am start), with the winners taking on Southern Vipers in the final (2pm) at Wantage Road.

Leg spinner Glenn finished top of the Sparks bowling averages with eight wickets at 15.37 runs apiece.

She also had the best economy rate and conceded just 5.12 runs per over.

Pace bowler Arlott was third in the averages with six wickets at 27.50 and an economy rate of 6.87.

In the group stages, the Sparks defeated South East Stars by 34 runs at Guildford but lost the return by ten runs under the Duckworth Lewis Method at Edgbaston.

England wicket-keeper-batter Amy Jones scored her third half-century in the competition at New Road on Saturday against Western Storm.

She finished as the Sparks’ leading scorer with 245 runs at 40.83, while captain Eve Jones contributed 178 at 29.76.
