Whiteley Hits Rapid 25 Not Out As Sixers Go Marching On

Ross Whiteley hit an unbeaten 25 off just 12 deliveries to help Sylhet Sixers maintain their 100 per cent winnng start in the Bangladesh Premier League.

The Worcestershire all-rounder struck three sixes as Sylhet totalled 205-6 after being put into bat and then restricted Rajshahi Kings to 172-8 in reply.

It was a third successive win for Sylhet after their triumphs over the Dhaka Dynamites and Comilla Victorians.

Once again openers Upul Tharanga (50) and Andre Fletcher (48) gave the Sixers a strong foundation with a stand of 101 in 11 overs.

Danushka Gunathilaka made 42 and then came Whiteley’s late burst of scoring after he came to the wicket at 143-3 in the 16th over.

He struck successive sixes over mid wicket off Farhad Reza and in the final over smashed Kesrick Williams over the ropes at long off to bring up the 200.

A total of 62 runs came off the final 4.2 overs.

Sussex’s Luke Wright opened for the Kings and top-scored with 56 while James Franklin made 35.

But Yorkshire all-rounder Liam Plunkett (3-29) ensured Sylhet ran out comfortable winners.

The Sixers will again be in action in the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium tomorrow when they take on Khulna Titans – their fourth game in five days.
