Whiteley And Lions Triumph After Super Over Drama Against Pakistan ‘a’

Ross Whiteley was part of the England Lions team which gained a dramatic Super Over triumph over Pakistan 'A' in the final T20 match of the series in Dubai.

The Worcestershire all-rounder and his team-mates thus triumphed 3-2 in the best of five series, hitting back after trailing 1-0 and 2-1.

Whiteley was at the wicket when Lions batting hero Dawid Malan was run out going for the winning single off the final ball of the 20 overs.

The Lions thus ended on 165-4 in reply to Pakistan's 165-3 with Malan making a superb 81 off 55 balls with two sixes and eight fours.

Whiteley remained five not out from 12 deliveries.

The game went to The Super Over and Malan struck two fours as he and Sam Billings made 12-0 from the over delivered by Junaid Khan.

The same pair had earlier added 93 in 9.2 overs for the third wicket to set up the Lions run chase.

Surrey paceman Tom Curran then restricted Pakistan to 8-1 in reply in their Super Over to see the Lions to victory by four runs.

Whiteley played in all five matches of the series with scores of 22, 29 not out, 0, six and five not out.

Worcestershire Director Of Cricket Steve Rhodes was part of the coaching team.

Joe Clarke played in the opening game, scoring 16 off 13 balls, but missed the remainder of the series with a quad injury.

A new Lions squad will be selected for five 50 over matches against the same opposition in the UAE during January with Rhodes again part of the coaching set-up.
