WESTBURY TOP SCORES FOR SECONDS IN 50 OVER DEFEAT AT TAUNTON VALE

Ollie Westbury top-scored for Worcestershire Seconds who went down by six wickets to Somerset Seconds in a 50 over encounter at Taunton Vale.

The opening batsman struck 10 fours in his 68 ball knock after Worcestershire had opted to bat first in the warm-up match for the forthcoming Second Eleven Trophy.

He was eventually seventh out at 123 when bowled by Roelof van der Merwe.

Westbury put on 46 with fellow opener George Rhodes (19) who was caught at mid on off Nathan Gilchrist in the eighth over.

Worcestershire reached 99-3 at one stage but then four wickets fell in quick succession to leave the total on 123-7.

Pat Brown – 44 off 69 balls – and Adam Finch (21) added 51 in 18 overs for the eighth wicket before falling at deep square leg and long off respectively.

Worcestershire were eventually bowled out for 191 from 48.4 overs.

Dom Bess (4-31 from 10 overs) and Gilchrist (3-41) were the main wicket-takers.

When Somerset replied, a century from Tom Banton enabled them to reach their target and he put on 118 in 17 overs with fellow opener Tom Lammonby.

Zain Ul Hassan broke the partnership by having Lammonby (22) caught behind by Alex Milton and one run later the keeper also held onto a nick by Peter Trego (0) off George Scrimshaw.

Banton made 109 off 82 balls with two sixes and 19 fours until he was bowled by Scrimshaw who finished with 2-44 from six overs.

Van der Merwe made a rapid 26 before he holed out to cover off Finch as Somerset reached their target in 28 overs.
