WALKER AND DICKENSON HELP WORCESTERSHIRE UNDER-18S TO TRIUMPH OVER LEICESTERSHIRE

Worcestershire CCC Under-18s overcame their Leicestershire counterparts by 67 runs in a 50 over encounter at Uppingham School.

There were useful contributions from several players with Oliver Walker (46) top-scoring in Worcestershire’s 255-9 and spinner Josh Dickenson picking up three wickets as Leicestershire were bowled out for 188 in 40.3 overs.

Worcestershire were put into bat and opener Rehaan Edavalath shared in stands of 38 with Ismail Mohammed (16) and 50 with Henry Cullen (21)

Edavalath (38) was third out with the total on 89 but then Walker – 46 off 43 balls with four fours – and Oliver Cox – 45 off 52 deliveries with two sixes and two fours – doubled the score.

After their dismissal, useful runs from Oliver (21), Myles Holland (17) and captain Joe Stanley (17 not out) lifted the final total past the 250 mark.

Leicestershire reached 83-1 after a second wicket stand of 74 between Will Begy (35) and Sam Wood (39).

But both fell without addition to the score, Wood caught and bowled by Stanley and Begy caught behind off Cameron Jones who also dismissed Joe Johnson (2) in the same manner.

Kieran Pell (50) and Jed Crearer (23) put on 54 for the fifth wicket but, once Dickenson had accounted for the latter, the wickets tumbled at regular intervals.

Dickenson (9.3-0-43-3) and Ismail Mohammed ( 4-1-23-2) shared the last four which fell for just 16 runs while Stanley ended with figures of 10-1-40-2 and Jones 5-0-18-2.

The Under-18s match against Herefordshire Under-18s at Coombs Wood on the following day was cancelled.
