Worcestershire Seconds were finally able to launch their season on the second day of the three-day friendly with Somerset Seconds at Taunton Vale.
Coach Kevin Sharp's side had been frustrated by three blank days – two one-day games away to Durham and the wash-out of yesterday's first day against Somerset.
Play was finally able to get underway after lunch and Somerset elected to bat on winning the toss.
Spinner Ben Twohig claimed Worcestersire's first success with the ball when he broke an opening stand of 136 between Adam Hose and Eddie Byron.
The former Malvern College pupil had Byron caught by skipper George Rhodes for 63 from 107 balls with nine boundaries.
Hose and Johann Myburgh then added 141 for the second wicket.
Rhodes finally accounted for Hose – caught by Nick Hammond – for 124 and Myburgh was 73 not out when the declaration came at 290-2 from 69 overs.
The Worcestershire openers, Rhodes and Josh Haynes, then safely negotiated seven overs from Craig Overton and Liam Redrup in reaching 24-0.
