Spinner Ben Twohig picked up three wickets for Worcestershire Seconds on day two of the clash with Sussex Seconds at Kidderminster.
The former Malvern College pupil finished with 3-84 from 24 overs.
The Sussex first wicket pair of Phil Salt and centurion Luke Wells dominated the first half of the day with a partnership of 195 in 42.4 overs.
Twohig broke the stand when he had Salt stumped by Alex Milton for 94.
Wells was joined by Harry Finch and the second wicket pair added 85 to take Sussex to 280-1.
Chris Russell had Wells caught behind for a fine 131 from 208 balls with 18 boundaries.
Then three wickets fell in quick succession with Twohig trapping Craig Cachopa lbw for six and bowling Will Beer for a single.
Alex Hepburn had a lengthy bowl during the day and accounted for the other wicket to fall of Fynn Hudson-Prince (1).
Finch ended the day unbeaten on 89 with Sussex 341-5 in reply to Worcestershire's 398-9 declared when a hailstorm ended play for the day.
