worcestershire ccc 2018 overseas player travis head will link up with his new team mates at New Road on april 5.
the australian batsman will fly in a week ahead of the opening specsavers county championship match with hampshire at the ageas bowl.
head coach kevin sharp said head – who skippered the adelaide strikers to big bash glory – will play in an internal practice match before the action starts for real on the south coast.
sharp is relishing the prospect of working with the 24-year-old who plays regular white ball cricket for his country but is also keen to force his way into the test side.
he said: “travis leaves us for about a month in june but then we’ve got him for most of the season.
“he is a fine young player who has got aspirations to go on and play test cricket for australia.
“i think australia are quite keen for their players to get some experience in england with a big series coming up in a year or two!
“that works well certainly for us in the fact we’ve got this guy who is going to be very hungry and very keen to want to do well in english conditions.
“i’m sure we are going to get some great benefits from that.
“he led the adelaide strikers to the big bash title so his experience in all formats is going to stand us in good stead.
“it’s a while since we had an overseas batter at the club so that will add strength in depth in that department.”
sharp added: “travis will arrive on april 5. we have an internal practice match in the week before we play hampshire. he will be available for that.
“he will have a good week to acclimatise and get to know the lads before we get underway.”
