daryl mitchell is closing in on a place in the list of worcestershire’s all-time top 20 run scorers in first class cricket.
the long-serving New Road opening batsman is currently lying in 23rd position.
he has amassed a splendid total of 12,664 runs for the county at an average of 40 in round figures since making his first class debut in 2005.
but four names in front of him will be within striking distance for mitchell, who celebrated his 36th birthday at the weekend, going into next season.
bob broadbent 12,800 (22nd), tom graveney 13,160 (21st), eddie cooper 13,213 (20th) and steve rhodes 13,300 (19th) are on the horizon.
mitchell, the chairman of the professional cricketers’ association, passed 13,000 first class runs in total during the finale of last season.
it is a tally that includes his contributions for mountaineers in zimbabwe and mcc versus the champion county in 2015.
mitchell is seventh in the list of worcestershire’s century-makers in first class cricket with 36 after adding two more last season against leicestershire and glamorgan.
he will be looking next summer to demonstrate the run-scoring which saw him finish as worcestershire’s leading scorer in three of the five seasons between 2014 and 2018.
