Top Flight Sport Returning To Worcester With Visit Of County Champions!

Top Flight Sport Returning To Worcester With Visit Of County Champions!

Top flight outdoor sport is just four days away from returning to Worcester!

Exciting is mounting as Worcestershire CCC make the final preparations for their opening LV = County Championship match with Division One champions Yorkshire starting at New Road on Sunday (11am).

The combination of a spring heatwave and the quality of cricket on the menu can only mean one thing – sizeable attendances and the message from the club is 'arrive early.'

It will be the first Championship match at New Road since the heroics of Jack Shantry against Surrey with bat and ball secured promotion last September.

The county have attracted more than 200 new members for a return to Division One cricket in their 150th Anniversary Year.

Worcestershire commercial director Jon Graham said: "The cricket season seems to get earlier but certainly over the Easter period we've had really good weather and we are hotter than some resorts abroad which is great news for us.

"Cricket can be impacted by the weather from time to time but given what has happened in recent days and what's looking like an extended period of good weather, I would certainly ask people to arrive early because we are playing the county champions on Sunday and we are going to be busy.

"The combination of Division One cricket, the county champions and good weather is normally the recipe for a lot of ticket sales.

"It's fair to say sport in Worcester has been in the doldrums a bit in the last 18 months but to have the county champions coming here, and for Worcestershire CCC to be one of the very few top flight cricket clubs in the country, that is to be celebrated.

"We are really looking forward to bringing that back to the city and it deserves it.

"Let's hope the rugby team Worcester Warriors can do well at the end of their season and get back to where they deserve to be.

"But we are here now and we want to entertain people. Top flight sport and blistering sunshine is a good recipe for a good four days."
