Skipper Says Rapids Hero Ross Will Be Looked At By England For T20 And Odi Cricket

Worcestershire Rapids skipper Daryl Mitchell believes big-hitting hero Ross Whiteley will be looked at by the England selectors after the latest example of his awesome power.

Whiteley smashed an unbeaten 91 off 35 balls with 11 sixes to earn the Rapids victory over Yorkshire Vikings at Headingley and the verge of a place in the NatWest T20 Blast quarter-finals.

The former Derbyshire all-rounder completely transformed the Rapids innings after a stuttering start and their 190-6 proved too much for the Vikings who were bowled out for 117.

Mitchell, who scored an important 49, said: “Ross’s was the stand-out performance. We didn’t get it right in the power play but you don’t see anything like Ross managed every day.

"The England selectors will be looking at him for Twenty20 and one-day internationals in time."

The Rapids are virtually through to the last eight but have never achieved a home quarter-final.

Mitchell said: "If we can get a home draw in the quarter-finals, that would be massive for the club financially and for the supporters."

Man-of-the-match Whiteley said: “I think I am playing as well as at an time in my career and I am hitting the ball as well as I have ever done.

"I am really enjoying my T20 cricket at the moment after the last two years have been very tough for me.

"I like to come in an the back end of the innings and I see that as my strength."
