Skipper Joe Leach admitted Worcestershire Rapids had "been beaten by a better side and thoroughly outplayed" after going down by 153 runs to Surrey in the Royal London One-Day Cup semi-final at New Road.
But Leach stressed that such experiences are part of the "journey" that the side are on and that it is important to "draw a line under it."
Now he is looking for the County to bounce back in Monday's home Specsavers County Championship clash with visiting Kent.
Leach said: "It is pretty raw at the moment. It obviously hurts quite a lot, to top the group and play the way we did, and then bomb out a little bit today.
"But that's cricket. We got beat by a very good Surrey side. They have shown that over a couple of years.
"We've just spoken in the dressing room about this being a little bit of a journey. As a side you are going to take knockbacks and this is certainly one of those.
"But hopefully we draw a line under it and we move on.
"They came out and played well and Jason Roy did what he didn't do in the Champions Trophy which is always bound to happen when guys come back.
"Then the class of Sangakkara and Foakes, who have been brilliant for them all tournament, showed."
Leach added: "It was a very good pitch and 360 was not insurmountable by any stretch of the imagination, about 30 above par, and then we just never really got going with the bat.
"There has been some fantastic striking and we've kept up with the rate. When we've got bowled out, we were well up with the rate overs wise.
"Unfortunately we lost too many wickets getting into that position and if you don't put together a partnership, you are never going to chase down a score that big.
"There were some good individual performances in there. Moeen started very well, Dolly batted very nicely and Ross struck the ball cleanly like in 2015 which is really good for us moving into the T20 Blast.
"But unfortunately not good enough to get the win today.
"Was I disappointed with the bowling side? You are going to be disappointed when you go for 360.
"Certainly, we are not going to look back at it and be proud of that but we played against very good batters on a very good surface.
"We might have miss executed one or two things but ultimately you have to hold your hand up some days and say we got beat and that's what happened."
Leach refused to use a lack of 50 over cricket in recent weeks as major reason for the Rapids setback.
The two semi-final victors, Notts Outlaws and Surrey, had both played a quarter-final earlier in the week.
Leach said: "There may be something in that. Obviously the two sides that played a quarter-final have come out on top.
"But it's hard to stand here and say that's the reason why we lost. "We've got beaten by a better side and been thoroughly outplayed and sometimes you have to hold your hand up and admit that.
"Will it be hard to pick things up for Monday? I certainly hope not. Come Monday, someone or two or three people need to put their hands up and put in a contribution that is going to win us the game.
"That is going to be the message. I don't see it as being a slide. We will be more than capable of beating Kent on Monday and that's the attitude we need to have."
