Skipper Looking For T20 Blast Form To Be Repeated In Royal London Cup

Skipper Looking For T20 Blast Form To Be Repeated In Royal London Cup

Skipper Daryl Mitchell hopes Worcestershire Rapids transfer their NatWest T20 Blast form into the Royal London One-Day Cup when they launch their campaign tomorrow away to holders Durham.

Mitchell is looking for the county to improve on their performance in last season's competition when they were in contention to reach the knockout stages with two matches remaining but eventually finished seventh in their group.

They often lost wickets during the initial powerplay overs and after being put into bat in tricky batting conditions with the 10.30am start.

Mitchell said: "We can take a lot of confidence from our T20 campaign and hopefully we can translate that form into the 50 over version.

"We are keen to improve on what was a disappointing campaign in the competition last season.

"There's more of a building phase when you are batting in 50 over cricket compared to T20. 50 overs is a long time to bat and you have to keep your concentration in the field for more than three hours."

Mitchell admits he will be keeping an eye on how counties approach the competition after the almost revolutionary approach of England and New Zeland in their recent memorable ODI series.

He said: "We all saw how England attacked with the bat and played positively in their series against New Zealand. "It will be interesting to see how the different counties approach things."
